712.1 Scope. This Ariticle applies to direct curcuit microgrids.

Analysis of the Change

This is a new article to cover DC microgrids which is a power distribution system including more than one interconnected DC power sources.

DC microgrids have become popular for use in data centers due to the large number of DC equipment located there. The system is more energy efficient as there are no losses associated with AC to DC conversion. Although the scope of the NEC does not include aircraft, the picture below is the Solar Impulse 2, a flying DC microgrid that completed an around the world route consuming no external energy.
